Dear Knitters,

We are coming to the end of an absolutely glorious summer, and fall is just around the corner - kind of hard to believe when we’re still getting this heat. I hope you’re had lots of time to relax and enjoy the weather, and maybe a little knitting somewhere with a nice breeze. Things are getting back to normal in my world. As some of you know, my husband was seriously injured in an accident in early June. He is recovering well, and the store is now open our regular hours again. I’m sorry if you’re come by the store and found it closed, but it just couldn’t be helped. We are back now, and excited about all the great fall knitting to come. We will be sending out an email with our fall class list in the next week or two, but for now – here are some of the new things in for fall.

Lug Bags

We’ll start with something great to put your knitting in. Lug bags are one of Oprah’s favourite things – so how can you go wrong. Not a specific knitting bag, just a great bag with lots of well thought out storage, these have a spot for everything. Use all the pockets for your keys, glasses, creditcards, etc. and leave the inside for your latest knitting project. Available in 8 great colours, and two sizes.

Aspire Super Chunky

This beautiful 70% wool /30% alpaca yarn was a best seller last year in it’s multi-coloured version. This fall we have it in solid and semi-solid shades as well. Great for those quick knit hats and scarves with a gauge of 9 sts=4″.

Click DK

Many of you have knit with the Aran weight Click yarn from Sirdar, and loved it. We now have it in the popular double knitting weight as well. We have 13 great heathered shades in stock for fall, and at $4.99 for a 50g ball, it will be a best seller. It is machine washable making it great for both kids and adult garments.

Happy

This fingering weight yarn by Wendy is made of 75% bamboo and 25% nylon, and is great for many uses. We have patterns for adult tanks, baby cardigans and sweaters, and of course socks. This is a great option for those that can`t wear wool, and is so soft – it`s bound to make your feet happy.

Eco wool+

Eco wool from Cascade Yarns is a chunky weight naturally coloured wool that we`ve carried for a year or two. Now we`ve added Eco wool+, a great collection of heathered shades like mustard, olive, plum, aqua, etc.. The large 400g balls have 478 yards of wooly goodness, and at $19.99 it makes a beautiful, and reasonably priced sweater.

YARN SALE – great deals

It`s the time of year when we have to make room for lots of new fall yarns to come. The following are on sale until Saturday Sept 4th, or while quantities last. Shop early for the best selection.

Patons Canadiana – 100g ball reg. 4.49 now $2.00 ball

Patons Angora Bamboo – 50g ball reg. 5.99 now $3.00 ball

SR Kertzer Northern Chunky – 200g ball reg. 9.99 now $5.00 ball

Patons Pure organic cotton – 80g balls reg. 5.99 now $3.00 ball

Patons Shetland Chunky – 100g balls reg. 5.99 now $4.00 ball

Happy Knitting,

Dear Knitters,

Has anyone else been lured into the idea that Christmas is a long time away because the weather has been so nice? This is a reminder that we are less than a month away from the big day. Yes it’s time to get into high gear with our knitting and crocheting. There’s still lots of time depending on what you’re making, and how many, but it is time to get serious. And to all of you who started Christmas knitting long ago, and are almost done – I admire you and aspire to be more like you. Maybe next year. Here are some of the new things we have in the store for you.

GIFT REGISTRY

Are there certain needles, yarns, knitting bags that you are wishing for? We have a gift registry that you can use to give your loved ones some ideas. Just drop into the store and pick out a special item, or two, or three, and we’ll keep a list.

YARN

KOIGU – You’ve been asking for this beautiful wool, and we’re proud to say it’s here. In case you haven’t heard of Koigu, this wool is locally dyed by a mother and daughter near Dornoch,Ont. It is often featured in popular knitting magazines like Vogue Knitting, and Interweave Knits, and there is a beautiful book that features their story and unique knitting patterns “Knits from a Painters Palette`. We are carrying their KPPPM fingering weight, and Kersti d.k. weight wool.

CASCADE 220 – This is one of the best selling yarns in North America. We are now carrying 36 colours in this pure wool from Peru. It is a very soft medium weight yarn perfect for just about everything.

ULTRA ALPACA – Berroco makes this very popular alpaca and wool blend yarn. It is available in a worsted weight – great for sweaters, hats, and scarves, and a new fingering weight ( with 20% nylon) - ideal for light weight sweaters and socks. We are also carrying the full selection of Norah Gaughan pattern books from Berroco.

NATURALLY ASPIRE – Another alpaca and wool blend, but this time in a super chunky weight. If you need to get a project done fast – this is the yarn for you. Great for scarves in a variety of varigated colours.

ZAUBERBALL – This German made sock yarn gradually changes colour throughout. We have the regular Zauberballs in shades of solid colours, and the Zauberball crazy which are wonderful tweedy mixes. This yarn comes in a beautiful unique ball that would also make it a great gift for a fellow sock knitter.

SNOWBALL – Are you looking for a quick Christmas project? This is it. A one-skein fluffy, bulky scarf that knits in less time than it takes to watch a movie. Beautiful, unique, and fast – what could be better.

TOOLS

ADDI-TURBO CLICKS – I hesitate to even mention these as they sell almost as fast as I get them, but I do have some right now. These very popular kits have 10 sets of the famous addi needle ends, and 3 lengths of cord to enable you to make up almost any size of circular needle. And they’re all packed in a neat travel size case.
